About the tour

We will discover the picturesque natural areas on the outskirts of the city of Cagliari, admiring the pink flamingos of the Molentargius lagoon and cycling with a sea view along the beautiful and very long Poetto beach, ending with the conquest of the Capo Sant’Elia lighthouse, which offers a panoramic view of the city from its strategic position between the two gulfs.

With the exception of this climb, which is optional and about a mile long, the route is completely flat and runs almost entirely along cycle paths.

Leaving from the city center, we quickly reach the port of Cagliari, which is populated by many pleasure boats. With a little luck, we may see dolphins swimming peacefully in the bay. The bike path along the seafront takes us gently out of the city, skirting one of the canals that feed the Molentargius lagoon. Already here, the environment begins to fill with moorhens and rare species of ducks.

Once we reach the park, we will be greeted not only by thousands of pink flamingos, but also by egrets, herons, Corsican seagulls, and hundreds of other bird species that have found their ideal habitat here. We will approach silently through the reeds and observation points to admire the elegance of these animals and take unique nature photos.

After crossing the park, we will connect with the cycle path that runs for miles along Poetto beach, stopping on the beach where we will enjoy an aperitif overlooking the sea. For the more active, it will be possible to extend the break with a refreshing swim.

The excursion continues with the only climb of the route to the scenic Sant’Elia lighthouse, which dominates the crystal-clear blue waters of the beautiful Cala Mosca, a small beach much loved by the people of Cagliari.

From here, the view stretches over the city, the Gulf of Cagliari and the Gulf of Angels, the entire Molentargius park, and Poetto beach.

On request, we can stop for lunch, obviously with a sea view, and taste the most authentic Cagliari cuisine.

The return to the city is again on a flat cycle path, ending a memorable day in relaxation.
